NYC Style Bagel
Delicious NYC style bagels great for any breakfast sandwich or with a smear of cream cheese
Ingredients
- 2 tsp dry yeast
- 4 1/2 tsp sugar
- 1 1/4 cups warm water
- 3 1/2 cups flour bread flour ideally, all purpose works fine
- 2 tsp salt
- everything bagel seasoning optional
- garlic seasoning optional
Instructions
- Add 1/2 cup water, sugar, and yeast to a bowl and let sit until bubbling, then stir
- Mix flour and salt evenly, and then add yeast mixture to center of the dough
- Slowly add remaining water to flour mixture and continue to mix until consistent dough is formed
- Knead dough for 10-15 minutes, then cover and allow 1 hour minutes to rise
- Flatten dough and form into 8 eight dough balls, form each dough ball into bagel shape
- Heat oven to 425 F and boil large pot of water
- Place bagels into boiling water, once bagels rise to the top continue to cook for 2 minutes, and then flip continuing to cook for an additional 2 minutes. Then remove from water
- Add seasonings to top of bagel, and cook in oven for 20 minutes
