Corned Beef and Cabbage

Irish dinner classic Corned Beef and Cabbage

Ingredients
  

  • 1 corned beef brisket
  • 5 bay leaves
  • 6 medium carrots
  • 5 medium potatoes
  • 1 head of cabbage
  • 1/4 cup garlic powder
  • 1/4 cup celery seed
  • 1/4 cup onion powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp pepper
  • soda bread (optional) see notes

Instructions
 

  • Place brisket in a stock pot and cover with water, bring to a boil add in all spices and herbs, and then simmer for two hours
  • Cut cabbage and carrots, slice a ring in center or potatoes so skin can be easily removed after cooking, add to water, and boil for 30 minutes
  • Remove vegetables, cut potatoes, and slice brisket, serve with soda bread and ladled sauce from pot
